A new turtle was released in February. Vitelline has joined the ocean!
Found very weak during a nest emergence on Tetiaroa atoll, this green turtle came out of the nest with its yolk sac still attached, preventing it from moving forward. Associated with an infection to the umbilical hole and a carapace deformation, Vitelline was easily recognizable by its unique shape. Now in good health, Vitelline has joined the ocean for new adventures !
This release was made possible thanks to the generosity of Vaapiti and its traditional sailing canoe who brought Te mana o te moana teams at the location of the release.
We would like to thank them warmly, as well as all the volunteers who work alongside us for the protection of sea turtles. Mauruuru to all!
