Apetahi is a green turtle, coming from the island of Raiatea on April 12th after an attachment of the local police force. After an anonymous call, this turtle was found on her back in the corridor of a house under construction, positioned in this way since 48 hours, waiting to be butchered for personal consumption. Thanks to the efforts of many volunteers, this turtle called Apetahi, in reference to the endemic flower, symbol of Raiatea that is also endangered of extinction), has been brought back over to the Sea turtle Clinic of Moorea really fast.
Apetahi weights 86 cm for 60kg, she was wounded on the top of the head by spire gun. She’s now feeling better and has been placed into the rehabilitation lagoon after a week in intensive care. We would like to thank the Air Tahiti company that has organized the transport of the turtle, Yasmina, or volunteer from Raiatea, the police force of Raiatea and the Ministry of the Environment in French Polynesia for their help.
