Marine waste collection on Tetiaroa https://www.temanaotemoana.org/en/marine-waste-collection-on-tetiaroa/ Tue, 21 Apr 2020 02:44:13 +0000 https://www.temanaotemoana.org/?p=18830

Did you know that 80% of marine waste comes from land? Did you know that litter sometimes travel tens of thousands of kilometers with ocean currents before ending up on a beach or disintegrating into small pieces and finally sinking?

This is why plastic waste is found everywhere, including on remote islands.

On Tetiaroa atoll, 9 volunteers from Tetiaroa Society, from The Brando and from our association participated in a cleanup day to collect waste brought by ocean currents. Ropes, plastic bottles, lollipop sticks, sandals are just some of the waste washed up on the beaches and picked up by these volunteers.

Many thanks to them!
