A new successful garbage collection today with the help of the Bourdons de Moorea!

The area from Tahiamanu Beach to Opunohu Bay was cleared of its waste. Again, we found a lot of plastics: ropes, nets, plastic bottles, food packaging, lollipop sticks, etc. This waste is often found in dead turtle stomachs , which unfortunately do not survive the massive ingestion of plastics.

Change in habits are urgently needed to protect the richness of our land and fauna.

The fight against pollution which deteriorates our environment and threatens animal species is an integral part of Te mana o te moana’s mission.

Join us for cleanup day on the roads of Moorea to prevent this human pollution from ending up in our lagoon.

Meet us next Tuesday, November 10, at 8:30 am at Tiahura Public Beach. Come equipped with gloves, water and your smile.

The MANA HONU event brings together the local population, associations, businesses and representatives of the municipality in Moorea

The MANA HONU event “Aita te pehu” which was held on Thursday January 30th in Moorea brought together associations, businesses, hotels, the local population and the representatives of the municipality who all participated in the MANA HONU Project.

The objective was to discuss the actions that were implemented in 2019 and what is to come for 2020.

A big thank you to everyone for your participation in this project and for your commitment to fight with us against plastic pollution on our beautiful island!

The MANA HONU PROJECT

Educational program with concrete actions to fight against plastic pollution in Moorea

Actions:

Creation of a MANA HONU mascot: the « wise turtle »
Creation of posters on the impact of plastic on the local fauna and on the eco-citizen habits to adopt
Creation of several comics, a 7 families game and a paper hen
Organization of educational workshops in schools
Display on school buses around the island of Moorea
Conduct of an awareness campaign with local businesses in Moorea and with the signing of a charter
Implementation of a Kilometer Point Sponsorship Program around Moorea with a commitment to collect waste once a month in the sponsored area – 10 associations and businesses have participated in this program

A new month, a new cleanup day!

Another cleanup day as part of the MANA HONU Project “STOP to waste” was organized. Again, too much trash found near the road, in the mangroves and on the sides of the road!

We urgently need to change our habits to stop this situation. All together, we can make a difference!

On Tuesday, Te mana o te moana team and volunteers performed another garbage collection! More than 20 bags of garbage were collected by our teams on the side of the belt road in our MANA HONU sponsored area.

Thank you to all for your motivation and dedication!
