The ‘Protect Pacific Whales – Ocean Voyagers’ Campaign provides an opportunity for SPREP and all its Members and partners to celebrate these magnificent creatures, raise awareness on whale conservation as well as ocean conservation. What happens in the ocean will inevitably impact whales.  The campaign will also address the problems Whales face as ocean-dwellers as this will ultimately impact all people.sprep-proe

The programme of work that is envisaged for the Protect Pacific Whales Campaign is an ambitious combination of scientific research, training and capacity-building, exchange of information, and cultural and artistic celebration.

Join us to celebrate whales and their place in Pacific cultures!  Together we can work towards promoting their protection in the face of emerging threats and support measures to enhance their conservation.  We can all aim to maximise the economic return available to Pacific island communities from the development and application of best-practice guidelines for whale-watching.

For more information, visit our website (English and French versions available) https://www.sprep.org/yearofthewhale and contact the Sprep at pacificwhales@sprep.org.

Eco label for the Elementary school 2+2=4.. https://www.temanaotemoana.org/en/eco-label-for-the-elementary-school-224/ Tue, 02 Feb 2016 18:33:02 +0000 http://www.temanaotemoana.org/?p=10949

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOn Friday 22nd, the 2+2=4 Elementary school from Tahiti has been rewarded by the mayor of Punaauia Ronald TUMAHAI. Represented by their director Patricia TERIITERAAHAUMA, the school has received the “ECO-ECOLE” label, an environmental label dedicated for sustainable actions held in their establishment. After a ceremony full of stone emotions (local dances, congratulations…), the different school-children have presented their hard work in favor of their Fenua (land); the work was based on the emblematic species of French Polynesia such as  the”Omama’o”, the monarch bird from Tahiti, “Tohora”, the humpback whale,  “Toa” the coral reef & “Honu” the Green turtle. To develop those thematics, the children participated since the beginning of the school year to various activities with foundations such as Te mana o te moana; they went to our foundation in December for a special day dedicated to he marine mammals and the sea turtles conservation. We took part of this ceremony thanks to our Marie, one of our volunteer from Tahiti. Congratulations one more time to the school children for their engagement toward their environment.

Humpack whales into the harbor of Papeete,Tahiti… https://www.temanaotemoana.org/en/humpack-whales-into-the-harbor-of-papeetetahiti/ Fri, 25 Oct 2013 23:38:18 +0000 http://www.temanaotemoana.org/?p=9064 dsc_2270On October 18th, humpback whales offered a beautiful sight into the harbor of Papeete – Tahiti. That were 5 adultes and one calf that stayed for the day into the harbor.

We remember you by the way that cetaceans are protected by the French Polyesian Gouvernement through a Sanctuary held in 2002 and the Environment Code from the Direction of the Environment of French Polynesia that regulates rules applied.

Dont’ forget to do not encircle the animals – to do not place yourself between a female and a calf – to respect a safety zone of 300 meters…
