Focus on the TE FA’A HOTU TE PARURU Project

The “Te fa’a hotu no te paruru” educational project aims to strengthen the resilience of coastal ecosystems to prevent erosion and the disappearance of ecosystems through revegetation and awareness-raising.

As part of this project, educational interventions were done in 7 8th grade classes in Tahiti and 4 in Moorea.

The program included:

Information on coastal ecosystems, their roles, threats and how to protect them.

Fun educational activities (reconstruction of a shoreline, presentation of sand samples, a plant species memorization game)

The distribution of a digital booklet on the coastal vegetationA total of 190 students from 11 middle schools were involved!

Faa’a youth immersion as part of the “HAAPI’I NO TE PAURURU” project

We’re delighted to share our first 𝓭𝓪𝔂𝓼 𝓸𝓯 𝓲𝓶𝓶𝓮𝓻𝓼𝓲𝓸𝓷 carried out as part of the « 𝘏𝘢𝘢𝘱𝘪’𝘪 𝘯𝘰 𝘵𝘦 𝘱𝘢𝘶𝘳𝘶𝘳𝘶: 𝘓𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘵 » 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘫𝘦𝘤𝘵.

We welcomed 7 youngsters from Faa’a Association Hotuarea Nui, who were able to:

Acquire knowledge about marine flora and fauna.
Discover different professions linked to environmental protection.
Put themselves in the shoes of our team members for a day to acquire professional skills.

Mauruuru to the young people of Hotuarea nui for your enthusiasm! At the end, 𝟏𝟔 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 will benefit from a day of immersion, a day to develop a personal project and a day to discover environmental projects conducted in Tahiti.

We’re delighted to share our first educational programs carried out as part of the « 𝘏𝘢𝘢𝘱𝘪’𝘪 𝘯𝘰 𝘵𝘦 𝘱𝘢𝘶𝘳𝘶𝘳𝘶: 𝘓𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘵 » 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘫𝘦𝘤𝘵.

We welcomed 𝟒𝟖 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧 from Tefana soccer association over 2 mornings, during which the athletes were able to give their brains a workout!

On the program:

Presentation and transmission of knowledge about sea turtles of French Polynesia
Raising awareness on plastic pollution
Educational activities
Visit of the rehabilitation center
Visit of the lagoonarium and identification of fish species observed

Haapi’i no te paururu project

We are pleased to announce the “𝙃𝙖𝙖𝙥𝙞’𝙞 𝙣𝙤 𝙩𝙚 𝙥𝙖𝙪𝙧𝙪𝙧𝙪: 𝙐𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙩𝙚𝙘𝙩” project.

Through educational programs and immersion days within our association, this project will enable the 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗙𝗮𝗮’𝗮 to develop knowledge about:

The environment
Marine biodiversity
Professions linked to environmental protection

To achieve this, we are calling on Faa’a’s youth, sports, cultural and environmental associations in order to welcome children 𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝟰 𝘁𝗼 𝟭𝟱 as part of the project.

Youngsters 𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝟭𝟲 𝘁𝗼 𝟮𝟱 will be welcomed for 3 days of immersion to acquire knowledge and reflect on a professional project linked to the environment.

A retrospective on World Oceans Day 2021

Yesterday, on June 8th, we had the pleasure of welcoming the CE2 class from Mairipehe school in Mataiea, winner of the HEI HONU competition.

Drawing workshop with Jose Marquez, educational activity, presentation on sea turtles, tactile activity or even a concert with Veroarii punctuated this recreational morning to children’s delight.

At the same time, 2 volunteers from the foundation conducted an awareness session aboard the Aremiti Tahiti – Moorea with many students from Tahiti.

World Oceans Day 2021

On June 8th, we will celebrate World Oceans Day.

We propose that you check the program for the week below to learn more about the actions planned so that you can join us.

Program:

– A recreative morning within the foundation facilities for the winning classes of the HEI HONU contest. (June 8th)

– Education aboard the Aremiti Ferry from 10AM to 12h30AM. (June 8th)

– A cleanup in Haapiti (Moorea). Come and meet us at 8h30AM at the Haapiti firestation’s bridge. (June 12th)

– An education booth will be set up at the Parc de Paofai from 16h30PM. (June 12th)

A natural habitat for millions of species, a playground or a food reserve… Ocean has many roles to play and we must all take care of it.

HEI HONU a successful contest

In March 2021, we launched the HEI HONU contest which consisted in producing work-of-arts with recycled and/or natural materials illustrating the issue of plastic pollution in our Polynesian waters. We received no less than 13 work-of-arts created by children from Tahiti and Moorea schools.

For the winners: a recreative and educative morning at the foundation on WORLD OCEANS DAY on June 8th, 2021.

* In the « Poster Category », the winner is the CM1- CM2 class from FARERO’I elementary school with Miss Paquita. A beautiful fresco made out of natural and recycled materials with the message « A clean ocean, I choose it. And you? ».

* In the « Land-art Category », the winner is the CE2 grade from MAIRIPEHE elementary school with Miss Moeata. An incredible ephemeral masterpiece visible from the sky which required the participation of 50 people!

In addition, the Jury Special Prize was awarded to the CM1 grade from PAPETOAI elementary school with Miss Karine for its originality. They will benefit from an educational program at our foundation in the next few weeks.

We wish to congratulate the 3 winning classes and to thank all the schoolchildren and their teachers for their creativity and their investment. Thank you also to the jury: Jose Marquez, Muriel Raddato from Les bourdons de Moorea, Franck Connan from Office français de la biodiversité, Vie Stabile, Sylvie Pithon, Emma Theron and Hélène Duran from Te mana o te moana.

A message into space

Today, we are proposing you a restrospective on the 2016 tale production contest as part of the Manareva project. Won by 11-year-old Papehau, her story flew all the way to space with famous astronaut Thomas Pesquet.

The goal was to promote the catch phrase: « From the ocean to space, let’s save our blue planet ».

The French astronaut is currently on a 6-month mission aboard the Dragon Crew to join the International Space Station (ISS).

The winning class of the contest Mata ora no Tetiaroa discovers the atoll of Tetiaroa !

At the end of June, the winning class of the contest Mata ora no Tetiaroa discovered the atoll of Tetiaroa !

After having worked for months in their class of Anne Marie Javouhey’s school in order to develop a production on the subjects of Polynesian biodiversity, culture and the atoll of Tetiaroa’s renewable energies, the 22 pupils, accompanied by their teacher Taria Vaiho, discovered the riches of this atoll with their own eyes !

The full-day excursion started with a green tour led by Alban, environmental manager for The Brando Eco-Resort. This tour included the discovery of the eco-station managed by Tetiaroa Society, of eco-responsible facilities, of the SWAC system, of waste recycling, of the sewage treatment system, of the composting system… A lot of ideas for our children to find their future job and innovative measures seen in real life !
The pupils then had lunch in the staff’s cafeteria : a meal offered by the hotel management that made both kids and adults happy !

All understand about the Protected Marine Areas…

Pew French Polynesia has created and produced a special cartoon book with Benjamin Bécue that highlights the benefits of large-scale Marine Protected Areas. Inside it, children discover the benefits of the ocean conservation.
