MANA HONU drawing competition takes place in a local school https://www.temanaotemoana.org/en/mana-honu-drawing-competition-takes-place-in-a-local-school/ Sun, 05 Jul 2020 00:43:53 +0000 https://www.temanaotemoana.org/?p=19435

This morning took place the MANA HONU drawing competition organized in the class of Mr. Aldo in Papetoai.

The goal was to draw our emblematic mascot which fights against plastic pollution: the MANA HONU turtle “STOP to waste”.

José Marquez, the artist who created the mascot, rewarded the winners with presents (tee-shirt, comic, 7-family game) and spent a nice moment with them. A do-it-yourself paper hen was also offered to all the children in the class who had prepared very nice drawings.

Congratulations to all the children for their enthusiasm around this beautiful project!

Inauguration of the coral structure To’a honu https://www.temanaotemoana.org/en/inauguration-of-the-coral-structure-toa-honu/ Fri, 05 Jul 2019 00:11:28 +0000 https://www.temanaotemoana.org/?p=17025

As part of the Univairmer partnership, Te mana o te moana installed a coral structure with coral cuttings made during educational programs. In the shape of a sea turtle, the structure has been named To’a honu (“Coral turtle” in Tahitian) and now adorns the resting pool of the Care center where the big adult turtles are located.

This structure represents a unique opportunity to educate visitors on the importance of coral reef protection for the balance of the ecosystem and the well-being of all marine species.

MANA HONU Project: Associations, businesses and hotels in Moorea mobilize against plastic pollution https://www.temanaotemoana.org/en/mana-honu-project-associations-businesses-and-hotels-in-moorea-mobilize-against-plastic-pollution/ Mon, 01 Jul 2019 22:08:39 +0000 https://www.temanaotemoana.org/?p=17013

The MANA HONU Plastic Pollution Awareness Project is in full swing in Moorea!

The PK (Kilometer Point) Sponsorship Program with regular waste collection in the sponsored area continues with the signature of the MANA HONU sponsorship charter for a dozen zones. 32 km out of the 60 km of the island have already been sponsored. Our efforts continue with the objective of sponsoring the entire belt road!

The Awareness Program for Businesses with the provision of environmentally friendly alternatives to the use of plastic is also well received. More than a dozen businesses have committed on key aspects to the Project by signing the MANA HONU commitment chart: no distribution of plastic bags and proposals of environmentally friendly materials, replacement of plastic trays with cardboard trays for take-away food, etc. As Hélène Duran, Communications Manager and Project Manager points out, the MANA HONU Project responds to an environmental emergency. Too many plastics end up in our lagoon and we can observe this pollution on a daily basis. Local businesses are well aware of this problem and thus receive this Project positively. The proposal of ecological alternatives on concrete points of their use enables them to cross the critical stage of behavior change”.

The educational materials developed for this project (posters, cartoons, 7 family games, origami, poster campaigns, etc.) will also help to get the message out to the public, in schools and in public places.

Together, let’s act for the protection of the environment!
