Last positions of “Ariti” crossing the Equator…. https://www.temanaotemoana.org/en/last-positions-of-ariti-crossing-the-equator/ Sat, 07 Dec 2013 20:52:28 +0000 http://www.temanaotemoana.org/?p=9129 42717-53771_120413-4pcThe loggerhead turtle named “Ariti” relased on May 2013 is now giving her last positions thanks to the second satellite tag she’s got on the back.

On December 1st, Ariti crossed the Equator just north of Nauru. She is currently in the North Pacific Ocean.  In total and at this time, Ariti shas travelled over 6,500 km during the 194 days since being released off Tahiti-iti!!!

Remind that this project is conducted thanks to the NOAA Administration (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) and in partnership with the Direction of the Environment of French Polynesia.

If you have been witnessed or been aware of a stranding in particular, we invite you to transmit the information you have collected, including:baleine a maupiti
date, location, species, number of individuals, living or dead animal, length, male or female, what actions have been taken (cares, autopsies, samples), do you have pictures or movies, observer name.

Dr. Cécile Gaspar wants to thank you in advance for sharing information that will allow us to provide the Department of the Environment a full report within the framework of the Action Plan for emblematic marine species.

This bird was found by the day before by the marine biologist of the foundation. Thanks to the adviuces of the foundation “Manu” which is taking care of all birds in French Polynesia, this bird was released in a very good health.

Te mana in Fidji https://www.temanaotemoana.org/en/te-mana-in-fidji/ Wed, 01 May 2013 01:10:24 +0000 http://www.temanaotemoana.org/?p=8070 From April 15th to the  18th, the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund and its stakeholders will look back on the programme’s past five years of conservation investment to share outcomes and assess the future plan for the region’s biodiversity conservation.

Suva, Fiji (April 15, 2013) – Five years of conservation work in the Polynesia-Micronesia biodiversity hotspot will be examined this week, beginning today,  at an evaluation workshop in Suva. The Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) has invested US $7 million to help preserve the region’s threatened ecosystems. This has supported more than 90 projects in 13 countries. The marine biologist of the foundation went over to Fidji in order to present the wide research program on sea turtles, funded mainly by the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) and the French Ministry in charge of the Environment.

Written by Philippe Vallette, co-President of the World Ocean Network, and Christine Causse, with exceptional pictures by Alexis Rosenfeld.

This book focuses on Te mana o te moana’s actions and especially on its Sea Turtles Clinic, where, to date, nearly 300 sick or wounded turtles have been cared after.
