We are really pleased to having conducted this huge educational program that gathered more than 1 200 students from 9-11 years old since the beginning.

DSC_0061From Raivavae to Moorea, in going through Rimatara and Rurutu, our team has delivered specific educational programs on the needs to set up marine conservation plans such as Rahui tamarii or marine areas… At each time they went into a school, a specimen of the toolkit was given to impulse teachers to use it year by year.

The “Ocean Heritage” toolkit… https://www.temanaotemoana.org/en/the-ocean-heritage-toolkit/ Sat, 19 Dec 2015 21:23:38 +0000 http://www.temanaotemoana.org/?p=10794 WEB MALLETTEThanks to the support of the PEW Charitable Trust, we elaborated, as part of the “Heritage project” held for the 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 school year, a special toolkit for the preservation of the environment and on the need to set up protection plans such as marine areas or Rahui in French Polynesia. As part of the huge campaign held last year in the Austral islands and on Tahiti and Moorea, more than 700 students from 9-11 years old have been received the visit of an educator for a special program using many educational tools. Since the beginning of the new school year, educators are travelling all over the Austral Islands to deliver the toolkit created as part of the project and that includes :

final poster 6teacher guide giving to them all the informations they need to know to develop the thematic;

brochure of Projet;

A special game board “Investigations in the Austral islands”

4 posters on the benefits of the Protected Marine Areas;

Charter realized by the school children of the CM2 Apara from the Teina-Mahu Elementary school from Tubuai and a poster created by the students from the Elementary school of Taharu’u, Papara, Tahiti; those two classrooms have wined the school contest organized last year on the project. Till now, mire than 500 school children from Tubuai, Raivavae, Rimatara and Moorea have received the case.

Beginning of the Ocean Heritage educational project…. https://www.temanaotemoana.org/en/beginning-of-the-ocean-heritage-educational-program/ Sat, 20 Dec 2014 19:07:34 +0000 http://www.temanaotemoana.org/?p=9841 WEB DSC01729Thanks to the support of PEW (Pew Charitable trusts), te mana o te moana is conducing a large awareness raising educational project on the ocean and the needs to set up conservation plans, with a specific focus on Austral Islands. As part of this project, our marine biologist went into the Australes islands to provide educational program helping at a better understanding toward the creation of Protected Marine Areas.

At least, we raised awareness of more than than 472 school children from 9 to 13 years old.

Through this educational project held in French Polynesia by PEW, te mana o te moana is povinding animations into schools of Tahiti, Moorea and Australes Island, and is in charge of the creation of an educational toolkit based on Marine Areas and the necessity to protect our ocean; it will be accompanied by a charter and boardgames…. information on the project will be diffused in 2015.

Since the beginning, te mana o te moana is raising awareness of the children on the rules applied and the necessity to know and respect the protected areas of Moorea. To celebrate this 10 years of existing, various events have been set up for the public during more than one month (beach clean up, parads, conferences, open-door days…). The city hall of Moorea Maiao appealed Te mana o te moana to organize a huge contest for children, either adults. Don’t forget to follow the news to get updates. All the events have been set up by the City hall of Moorea Maiao, in partnership with the Mix Syndicat and the non profit foundation PGEM Moorea.

Fifth session of the Moorea’s educational project… https://www.temanaotemoana.org/en/fifth-session-of-the-mooreas-educational-project/ Sun, 23 Mar 2014 00:13:35 +0000 http://www.temanaotemoana.org/?p=9440 DSC_0131For the Fifth session of the educational school project “Awareness raising of the Marine space of Moorea, Magali, our animator and Vie the education officer welcomed the students of Paopao Elementary School for a special program based on the marine fauna and flora during 3 hours. As part of the 2013-2014 school project developped by the foundation and supported by the Te Me Um program, all the school children aged from 9 and 11 years from the all 7 schools of Moorea were welcomed for a special program in order to get a better knowledge of our marine ressouces and emblematic species. On that day, it was the 26 students of Paopao Elementary School (CM1 level of Mr Joackim) that were welcomed, enjoying to visit the coral reefs garden, the Sea turtle Clinic and the dolphin lagoon area… Next intervention… soon….

Launching of the “lagoon contest” https://www.temanaotemoana.org/en/lancement-du-concours-recifs-coralliens/ Sun, 05 May 2013 21:59:29 +0000 http://www.temanaotemoana.org/?p=8086 The foundation has set up a special contest on coral reefs towards schoold children from 9 to 11 years old from the island of Moorea. This contest is the last step of an educational project conducted since the beginning of the school year regarding the conservation of coral reefs and for a better understanding of the protected areas into the lagoon of Moorea.

Supported by the Fondation pour la Nature et l’Homme and in partnership with the Direction of Primary School and the City hall of Moorea Maiao,  this project aimes at a better understanding of the marine laws set up for the lagoon of Moorea since 2005. At least, 7 classerooms, around 300 school chilren participated to the project divided into 2 steps. The first one was based on information about the laws of the lagoon of Moorea during classes. Then, educators from Te mana o te moana made the children visit an underwater trail realised by the foundation, in order to make them aware by the importance of respecting the rules set up. To finalise the project, a special contest is organised, that will be celebrated on June 8th for the World Ocean day.

2010, November 15th-17th – 2nd National conference on Protected Marine Areas held in La Rochelle, France https://www.temanaotemoana.org/en/national-conference-of-protected-marine-areas-held-in-la-rochelle-france/ Mon, 15 Nov 2010 17:55:37 +0000 http://dev.imagiinate.com/temanaotemoana/?p=80 Called : “From the Grenelle de la mer to the Sommet de la Terre en 2012”, this conference was organized to define perspectives on the national startegy of Protected Areas…
During 3 days, all participants have taken part to presentations in order to get a better knowledge of international existing intiatives (France areas but also Pacific, Atlantic and Indian areas).

Te mana o te moana’s  represented by her President, the DVM Cécile Gaspar, has presented actions made by the association in conservation and education.

She has aslo presented the educational tool created especially for a better understanding of the PGEM of the island of Moorea (Restricted Marine Areas).This game was elaborated for the French Polynesia Ministry of Fisheries and is presented to all schools of Moorea during the “Sea’s days” during the all school year long. In partnership with the City Hall of Moorea’s island, the PGEM association, the Acroporis fundation, educators and volunteers welcome school children from 9 to 11 years old in order to present them the importance of protected areas, the link between animals living on land and sea and the cultural aspect of the island of Moorea.

Note that many French Polynesian Minsitries have taken part to this meeting : Tamauri Foster, minsiter of marine ressources, Jeremy Jahan form the Minsitry of Tourism, Terana Hargous form the Environment Minsitry, Teari Alpha. Also note that the representant of the Protected Marine Areas Agency, Sophie Dorothée Duron, took aslo part into this conference.
