The theme of this edition : “Ocean of knowledges” will provide the opportunity to discover the numerous and valuable work of local research and public institutions as well as associations.

On the program : Science Village, round table, conferences, open days and educational presentations in schools. More details to come.

This year again, Te mana o te moana is coordinating the Science Festival in French Polynesia! 

Starting on November 18th and finishing on November 26th, the 31st edition will highlight the climate change phenomenon and will present possible solutions to slow down its progression.

Many activities will be proposed: a 2-day science festival, 2 conference cycles, over 80 education workshop in class, 2 e-learning videos, and much more.

This year again, we are happy to coordinate the 2021 Science Festival in French Polynesia. A unique opportunity to introduce Science and the work of scientists to everyone, young and old.

This 30st anniversary edition on the theme “The emotion of discovery” has some wonderful activities in store for you:

  • An online Virtual Science Village  to discover multiple workshops and scientific experiments under the eyes of the cameras at www.fdspolynesie.org 
  • A Participatory Science Program to investigate “Acanthaster planci” invasion in French Polynesia
  • A Photo Exhibition to celebrate 30 years of science on our beautiful islands
  • A Series of Conferences in Tahiti and Moorea around the 2021 theme
  • A program of Educational Workshops in schools with scientists sharing their work

Last week, Magali Lagant, educator of Te mana o te moana and Charlotte Esposito, founder and director of Oceania association travelled to Tubuai in the Australs archipelago to deliver educational workshops in the local schools. More than 500 students from primary and high schools were educated on the Observatories created by the 2 associations. Marine turtles and cetaceans are all species that Te mana o te moana and Oceania strive to observe to better understand and protect them.

The Science Festival will visit the Tuamotus archipelago and the Marquesas next month.

The 2019 Science Festival (fête de la Science 2019) started on October 4th on the theme “Observatories and sentinels of change” with several events:

  • Open doors in Research Institutes such as IFREMER and CRIOBE for schools and the general public – these events gathered hundreds of visitors
  • Conference cycles with presentations from scientists and associations representatives – more than 200 people attended the presentations by over 15 presenters
  • Educational workshops in schools on various topics – more than 500 school children participated in these workshops
  • Creation of an  Informative booklet presenting the local scientific institutes and associations involved in the local observatories
  • And much more…

In the next few weeks, scientists and educators of local associations will travel to remote islands to deliver more educational workshops to local school children.

This Festival is a unique opportunity for the scientific world to meet with the general public and more specifically school children, and share their knowldge and findings on important matters.
