In this month of January 2022, we had the pleasure of welcoming 2 groups of around twenty people in Tahiti and Moorea, who came to participate in a training course organized by Te mana o te moana.

Dedicated to holiday and leisure centers, camps and foundations, this training allowed the creation of educational activities around the material recycling, bringing together everyone’s ideas.

During this training, a global environmental assessment and more specifically in French Polynesia was first carried out, then subjects such as sustainable development and eco-responsible actions were discussed.

The workshops around the themes “๐™‚๐™ž๐™ซ๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™œ ๐™ค๐™—๐™Ÿ๐™š๐™˜๐™ฉ๐™จ ๐™– ๐™จ๐™š๐™˜๐™ค๐™ฃ๐™™ ๐™ก๐™ž๐™›๐™š” and “๐™๐™š๐™ฅ๐™–๐™ž๐™ง๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™œ ๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™จ๐™ฉ๐™š๐™–๐™™ ๐™ค๐™› ๐™ง๐™š๐™ฅ๐™ก๐™–๐™˜๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™œ” were animated by Mooz Rรฉparette for the delight of the participants.

Combining theory and practice, the objective of this training is to find daily solutions to have a limited impact on the environment.

We recently had the pleasure of delivering a training module to French Polynesia futur naturalist guides specializing in aquatic activities.

Organized by the Polynesian Youth and Sports Department and financed by the Municipality of Moorea-Maiao, this 3-hour module focused on providing key knowledge on sea turtles and how to observe them while respecting their environment. This certification will allow certified guides to accompany people during aquatic excursions in the ocean and in the lagoon.

As part of theย teaching unitย  “conservation biology & invasions in the islands”, the trainingย  meant the emblematic marine species of French Polynesia, but the focus was on the place occupied by the marine turtle in terms of Polynesian traditions and culture. Students also had a vision of the status of sea turtles around the world.ย

As part of the sea turtles conservation program implemented in French Polynesia, the DIREN (Department of Environment) has trained volunteer referent persons, in Tahiti and her islands.

These referent persons have attended a special training course directed by the DIREN, in order to gain knowledge about sighting sea turtles, identification, tagging of the animals and samplingย  for genetetical analysis.

Te mana o te moana was invited to take part. Four persons from te mana o te moana were present on October the 24th: Cรฉcile Gaspar, Matthieu Petit, Noรซl Pahio and Auguste Soi-Louk.

 

The four of them have been trained, and received a diploma of “Referent person for sea turtle”, delivered by the Department of Environment.

It was the opportunity for them to discover the various educational tools and programs provided by the foundation. Vie Jourdan, Education officer has presented all pedagogic activities…. teachers were school children in order to evaluate all tools. To conlude this day, they visit the Sea turtle Clinic to discover species and cares provided.

2010, march 29th and 30th โ€“ 2 training days for tourism operators https://www.temanaotemoana.org/en/2010-march-29th-and-30th-%e2%80%93-2-training-days-for-tourism-operators/ Mon, 29 Mar 2010 04:20:24 +0000 http://www.temanaotemoana.com/?p=3832 To follow the project of Sustainable tourism in French Polynesia, elaborated in partnership with the CRISP ( Coral Reef Initiativeโ€™s in the Pacific), a formation on nautical tourism and environment protection has been organized on march 29th on the island of Moorea.

Done for the touristic partners of the Moorea lagoon, this formation managed by the marine biologist, Matthieu Petit, has welcomed 28 participants. At the end of the day, each participant gains a diploma of participation and the practical guide on sustainable marine-based activities in French Polynesia.

Those days have been the opportunity for all actors partners (scuba diving centers, whale watching and ray feeding companies, etcโ€ฆ) to share all problems that could happen during their nautical activities. The start-up of a lagoon policy, or the better understanding of the residents or touristic people has been touched.

On the invitation of the GIE tahiti Tourism, Dr. Cecile Gaspar presented Te mana o te moanas’ actions in two specific areas: sea turtles and sting rays and the importance of the public awareness. In addition, the patron of our foundation, the astronaut Jean Franรงois Clervoy, was invited share his experiences in diving and zero gravity characteristics. It was the opportunity to remember that from ocean to space, we need to protect our blue planet.
