It will then be read from space so that the slogan, \u00ab\u00a0from ocean to Space, let\u2019s preserve our blue planet \u00bb, can resonate on earth and into the whole universe.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Thanks to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.airtahitinui.com\" target=\"_blank\">Air Tahiti Nui<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vilebrequin.com\" target=\"_blank\">Vilebrequin<\/a><\/strong> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pacsafe.com\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Pacsafe<\/strong> <\/a>support, the organisation was able to undertake this project, which holds a message of hope towards sea turtles protection, these symbolic species in our polynesian waters.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.temanaotemoana.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Cecile-discours-accueil.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-11343\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-11343 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.temanaotemoana.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Cecile-discours-accueil.jpg\" alt=\"Cecile discours accueil\" width=\"279\" height=\"186\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.temanaotemoana.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Cecile-discours-accueil.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.temanaotemoana.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Cecile-discours-accueil-600x400.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.temanaotemoana.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Cecile-discours-accueil-319x213.jpg 319w, https:\/\/www.temanaotemoana.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Cecile-discours-accueil-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 279px) 100vw, 279px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>In total, <\/strong><strong>14<\/strong><strong> tales were received : 13 from French Polynesia (<\/strong><strong>Tahiti, Moorea, Fakarava and even Rurutu in the Marquesas Islands) and 1 from France\u00a0\u2013<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A few weeks ago, the judging panel \u2013 composed of an artist, two environmental actors, a teacher, the Moorean educational district advisor, a representative of Moorea Maio municipality and members of the organisation \u2013 met to deliberate on the received productions. The panel selected the tale that will leave for space in November 2016 alongside with Thomas Pesquet, and will be read from aboard the ISS (International Space Station).\u00a0Criterias included illustrations\u2019 quality, polynesian cultural assets\u2019 references, tale main aspect (magical, enchanting, etc), overall presentation, and also structure, grammar and spelling.\u00a0After more than 3 hours of uninterrupted reading and discussions, it is <strong>\u00ab\u00a0Le v\u0153u de Mana\u00a0\u00bb<\/strong> (\u201cMana\u2019s wish\u201d) which received unanimity. This tale was realized by a mother, Miriama and her daughter Papehau Seveno (11 years old), both originating from Moorea and living in Papetoai.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Miriama and her daugther Papehau wished to participate in the contest not only to better inform the readers on the necessity to protect sea turtles in Polynesia but also to expose and promote the richness of polynesian culture.\u00a0Indeed, during her childhood, Papehau had participated many times in actions undertaken by the organisation, and had come with her class for educational programs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.temanaotemoana.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/GROUpe-fin.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-11345\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-11345\" src=\"http:\/\/www.temanaotemoana.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/GROUpe-fin.jpg\" alt=\"GROUpe fin\" width=\"314\" height=\"201\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.temanaotemoana.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/GROUpe-fin.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.temanaotemoana.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/GROUpe-fin-600x383.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.temanaotemoana.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/GROUpe-fin-333x213.jpg 333w, https:\/\/www.temanaotemoana.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/GROUpe-fin-768x491.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 314px) 100vw, 314px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nInspired by polynesian legends being passed down at all times by elders, they narrated <strong>Mana\u2019s story<\/strong>, a polynesian young boy whose father Roimata, chief of a village, considered sea turtles\u2019 meat a delicacy very much appreciated. Mana, who had ealier on befriended with a sea turtle, fights against his father to make him stop hurting this innocent species\u2026 but in vain\u2026 his father refuses\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.temanaotemoana.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/lecture-zoom-le-voeu-de-mana.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-11346\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-11346\" src=\"http:\/\/www.temanaotemoana.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/lecture-zoom-le-voeu-de-mana.jpg\" alt=\"lecture zoom le voeu de mana\" width=\"262\" height=\"280\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.temanaotemoana.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/lecture-zoom-le-voeu-de-mana.jpg 542w, https:\/\/www.temanaotemoana.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/lecture-zoom-le-voeu-de-mana-199x213.jpg 199w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 262px) 100vw, 262px\" \/><\/a><em>One day, when Roimata was fishing, he brought back in his nets the largest sea turtle ever seen. He called his son to show it to him, but Mana was nowhere to be found. The chief of the village started spearing the poor sea turtle with all his strength\u2026 while the sea turtle was slowly dying, she started to turn into Mana\u2019s body lifeless and blood-stained\u2026 Roimata realized he had just speared his own son, and fell on his knees crying and begging Mana to forgive him. He then promised in front of the entire village that if gods would give him back his son, he would never kill a sea turtle again. His tears, running down Mana\u2019s body, healed up his injuries and brought him back to life. \u00ab\u00a0To this day, and thanks to Mana, we never heard about sea turtle hunting again on the island \u00bb.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0&lt;&lt; To read the tale Mana&#8217;s wish (only in French) : \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.temanaotemoana.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/bd-Le-voeu-de-Mana.pdf\" rel=\"\">Le voeu de Mana<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This is how the work \u00ab\u00a0Mana\u2019s wish\u00a0\u00bb was awarded \u00ab\u00a0\u0153uvre laur\u00e9ate du concours\u00a0\u00bb.\u00a0Invited at the organisation, in the company of jury members, Papehau and Miriama received their prize\u00a0: not only will their creation be read from space, but also, they will discover the mainland and the Cit\u00e9 des Sciences thanks to the airline company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airtahitinui.com\" target=\"_blank\">Air Tahiti Nui<\/a>\u2019s support, an organisation willing to protect, preserve and save living species composing the richness of our polynesian natural environment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Thomas Pesquet<\/strong> will leave for a mission aboard the ISS in November 2016 \u2013 the exact day will be communicated at a later date.\u00a0He will then come to Polynesia <strong>in 2017<\/strong> to meet with the winners and share his experience as an astronaut with polynesian kids during interventions he will perfom with the organisation.
