\n\t\t\tConference – Gaining a Better Understanding of Sea Turtles with the IMPACS Project\t<\/h1>\n\t\t\t\t\"QUI-border\"\n\tOn Wednesday January 15 2025<\/strong>, the association Te mana o te moana<\/em> <\/strong>had the pleasure of organizing an engaging conference at the Fare Te mana o te moana<\/strong>, located within the tropical setting of the InterContinental Tahiti Resort & Spa<\/strong> in Faa’a. This event brought together ocean enthusiasts, curious minds, and committed stakeholders united by a common cause: the preservation of sea turtles<\/strong> in the South Pacific.\n

Discovering the IMPACS Project: An Initiative for Science and Citizens<\/strong><\/h2>\nThe event served to unveil the IMPACS project<\/strong> – Initiative for the Knowledge and Conservation of Hawksbill Turtles in the South Pacific. This ambitious project aims to improve understanding and protection of sea turtles<\/strong>, particularly the hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata<\/em>), an iconic and endangered species.\n\t\t\t\t\"IMG_1819\"\n\t\t\t\t\"Projet\n\t

Two Territories, One Mission: Wallis and Futuna & French Polynesia<\/strong><\/h3>\nJointly implemented in Wallis and Futuna and French Polynesia<\/strong>, the IMPACS project is designed to be participatory, sustainable<\/strong>, and science-based. It aims to:\n
    \n
  • Strengthen both scientific and traditional<\/strong> knowledge about sea turtles;<\/li>\n
  • Create a citizen science network<\/strong>, with local training sessions and outreach activities<\/strong>;<\/li>\n
  • Establish a shared data collection protocol<\/strong> for nesting female turtles, particularly green and hawksbill turtles<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    An Engaging Conference for All Audiences<\/strong><\/h2>\nDuring this conference, participants had the opportunity to:\n

    • \nUnderstand the challenges of sea turtle conservation in our territories;\n<\/li>\n
    • \nDiscover the initial stages of the IMPACS project;\n<\/li>\n
