Indeed, research studies by local scientists have enabled the installation of special areas for giant clams, and of corals nurseries.<\/h5>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Coral nursery<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The local <strong>Research Center <a title=\"Partners\" href=\"http:\/\/www.temanaotemoana.com\/about-us\/partners\/\">CRIOBE<\/a><\/strong>, in agreement with Te mana o te moana, has developped a coral nursery. This nursery will later provide <strong>many species of corals<\/strong>, that will be available <strong>without requiring more withdrawals from the natural environment<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Therefore, this project will help to reintroduce corals species when needed (for example when <strong>rehabilitating a damaged area<\/strong>), and to <strong>create new underwater trails<\/strong> for awareness raising on coral reefs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.temanaotemoana.com\/research\/august-2010-set-up-of-a-coral-nursery-in-a-natural-area\/attachment\/olympus-digital-camera-43\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-6014\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-6014\" title=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" src=\"http:\/\/www.temanaotemoana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/SSM-Moorea-b\u00e9nitiers-3-.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>This coral nursery is also <strong>interesting for scientific research<\/strong>: it enables scientists to study corals developping in a natural environment, without having to pick them off the reef.<br \/>\nVarious <strong>growing tables<\/strong> have therefore been installed in the hotel&#8217;s interior lagoon.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Giant clams<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Having various activities in the &#8220;research and development&#8221; area, the <strong>Tahiti Eco Clams society<\/strong> has been chosen by the Polynesian government and the CRISP to carry on a study on the re-settling of giant clams previously obtained by collecting. This experiment is very interesting regarding the <strong>potential development of unique eco-tourism activities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.temanaotemoana.com\/research\/august-2010-set-up-of-a-coral-nursery-in-a-natural-area\/attachment\/olympus-digital-camera-44\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-6015\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-6015\" title=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" src=\"http:\/\/www.temanaotemoana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/SSM-Moorea-benitiers-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>The experiment has been set up <strong>in partnership with te mana o te moana<\/strong> within the underwater trail&#8217;s area.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Three pilot spots, each of them hosting 20 giant clams measuring about 12 cm<\/strong>, have been established on the fringe of the underwater trail&#8217;s area, and are <strong>regularly looked after<\/strong> by te mana o te moana.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Since a couple of months, new developments have been added to Moorea&#8217;s underwater trail.
