The “Hope Spots” created by Dr. Sylvia A. Earle as part of the Mission Blue Foundation are a source of enthusiasm and a conservation model. On Tetiaroa atoll, the scientific mission on the monitoring of sea turtle nesting sites carried out by Te mana o te moana for 15 years contributed to obtaining the Hope Spot label for the atoll in 2019.
Dr. Sylvia Earle is an internationally renowned oceanographer, American explorer and lecturer, for National Geographic amongst others. It was a great pleasure seeing her again last May when she came to Polynesia at the Blue Climate Summit.
During the United Nations Ocean Conference in Lisbon last June, meetings took place between various Hope Spot officials. These discussions will allow to forge new partnerships and exchanges of skills, in particular with the Sulubaaï Foundation in the Philippines and with Frédéric Tardieu, its founder and president, for training and sharing of experience on sea turtles and nesting sites protection.
