A new green sea turtle recently joined the Moorea Sea turtle care center.
Poached by an arrow in the head, this 51cm and 13kg turtle named Te mana ori (“Wanderer spirit” in Polynesian) was discovered by a Vaiare resident stranded on the beach and very weak.
Alerted, we were able to recover it with the authorization of the Direction de l’Environnement Polynésie Française and to start a treatment protocol. Antibiotic treatment was first administered to treat any infection due to the arrow impacts. Then, a rehabilitation plan was put in place for a gradual return to the Care center lagoon.
We will make sure to keep you informed!
