A new hawksbill turtle recently joined the Moorea Sea turtle care center.
Poached with an arrow impact in the neck, this 51cm and 10kg turtle named Porites Rus from the name of the coral it was found close too, was discovered by a Maaatea resident swimming in circles and motionless in the lagoon. She directly came into contact with the diver.
Alerted, we were able to recover it with the authorization of the Direction de l’Environnement Polynésie Française and to start a treatment protocol. Antibiotic treatment was first administered to treat any infection due to the arrow impact. Then, a rehabilitation plan was put in place for a gradual return to the Care center lagoon.
We will make sure to keep you informed!
