On the occasion of the 2019 World Turtle Day, Te mana o te moana organized a special event at the Sea turtle care center in Moorea.
A stand with informative documents, educational games and diverse information was installed on the beach and a detailed presentation on the resident sea turtles and on the threats they currently face locally and worldwide was made.
Throughout the day, over a 100 persons came to meet us in addition to the school children welcomed on this special day for our educational programs.
Sea turtles worldwide currently face several threats: plastic pollution, accidental fishing, degradation and loss of their habitats and nesting areas, global warming, poaching, etc.
We must implement concrete actions immediately to preserve this species: limit plastic consumption, sort waste, advocate for better control of intensive fishing and for the preservation of littorals, reduce carbon footprint, etc.
