March 24-29, Pattaya, Thailand
Thanks to the partnership with Air Tahiti Nui in place since 2017, our Founder and Director of conservation programs Dr Cécile Gaspar was able to participate in the 42nd edition of the ISTS conference dedicated to sea turtles whose objective is to federate a community of experts, to increase their skills through an exchange of experience and to promote actions to protect and conserve marine turtles.
For nearly a week, more than 600 international participants who dedicate their lives to the study and protection of sea turtles were able to share their expertise, their experiences and their protocols in favor of the species protection.
Dr Cécile Gaspar was able to present the achievements of 20 years of veterinary experience with concrete cases from the Sea turtle rehabilitation center she created in 2004 in Moorea during the Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Workshop with the presence of more than 100 participants including many veterinarians. During the “Oceania” Committee, she was able to present the results of 17 years of studies on the monitoring o green turtles nesting sites carried out on Tetiaroa atoll thanks to the support of The Brando and Tetiaroa Society highlighting the rigor and quality of the study, which results are currently being published. Finally, she was also able to participate in the International IUCN Marine Turtle Specialist Group meeting she has been a part since 2008.
These exchanges allowed to initiate and strengthen exchange projects with South Pacific countries such as Fiji and Wallis and Futuna thanks to the support of the Direction de l’Environnement Polynésie Française and our partners, with a focus on regional hawksbill turtles.
We would like to thank Air Tahiti Nui for its support and all the institutional and private partners who have supported Te mana o te moana for 20 years.
