As part of the sea turtles conservation program implemented in French Polynesia, the DIREN (Department of Environment) has trained volunteer referent persons, in Tahiti and her islands.
These referent persons have attended a special training course directed by the DIREN, in order to gain knowledge about sighting sea turtles, identification, tagging of the animals and sampling for genetetical analysis.
Te mana o te moana was invited to take part. Four persons from te mana o te moana were present on October the 24th: Cécile Gaspar, Matthieu Petit, Noël Pahio and Auguste Soi-Louk.
The four of them have been trained, and received a diploma of “Referent person for sea turtle”, delivered by the Department of Environment.
