It is with great emotion that we must announce the passing of Tortilla.
Tortilla arrived at the very beginning of the foundation’s creation 16 years ago with a severe buoyancy problem, preventing her from feeding, swimming and being released. Despite the treatments, the rehabilitation efforts and all the good care provided by the teams, her health did not improve.
Remaining on the surface, she drifted with sea currents and could be observed floating like a rock. Mascot of the foundation, Tortilla was pampered by the teams, the volunteers, and visitors were always asking for some news.
Dean of the Care center, she was over 70 years old, an advanced age for a hawksbill turtle.
We would like to thank all the people who took care of Tortilla over the years, who supported the actions of the foundation allowing us to take care of her and who have regularly asked for news.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
