Sammy is a young green turtle who had been at the Clinic for about three months after she was found by a fisherman along the reef in Moorea and that had no apparent wounds (except an old scar on her right flipper). On the day she arrived, she suffered from a small eye infection and she was slightly floating, but it all went away after a few days.
After a month of care, and the sad and chocking discovery of many pieces of plastic in her fieces, we started noticing a lot of improvements in her general state. It seems that she suffered from a stomack blocage after she had eaten quite a lot of plastic by mistake, notably a long plastic bag handle.
A famous french group called Fréro Delavega, for the first time in French Polynesia for a concert, were right on time for the release of Sammy that we organised on Sunday the 20th of November. The two singers, their musicians and their team were happy to be able to join us to aknowledge the beautiful moment of a recovered turtle returning to her ocean home. We thank the Mahana Tours company that allowed us to do the release… and the Ministry of the Environment which support the care center.
