Highness serene the Prince Albert II of Monaco wished to attend the signing of this agreement during his short stop in French Polynesia Thursday on October 8th, 2015, during its path between Easter Island and Kiribati. The President of the French Polynesia, Edouard Fritch welcomed him, accompanied by the ministers Teva Rohfritsch, Tearii Alpha and Heremoana Maamaatuaiahutapu.
Highness serene the Prince Albert II of Monaco is particularly invested in the environmental cause. In June 2006, he decided to create his Foundation to address the concern threats to the environment of our
planet.
The Cooperation Framework Agreement signed between the Polynesian te mana o te moana, the Oceanographic Institute / Foundation Prince Albert 1 of Monaco and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation is to define the conditions under which the three institutions wish to work together to promote the importance of preserving the biodiversity and the marine ecosystems, including sea turtles, marine mammals and coral reefs in French Polynesia.
As part of that, the parties have agreed to collaborate to produce actions and events for :
– The actors and makers of the oceans : companies, policy makers, scientific community, civil society;
– The opinion leaders and the general public;
– Young people and families.
The theme of the “sea turtles” chosen by the Oceanographic Institute for the years 2015 and 2016 was selected for a first series of actions in partnership and supported by Polynesia.
