Tortilla is the eldest turtle of the Care center. About 70 years old, this hawksbill turtle weighs 75kg for 90cm.
With a buoyancy problem, Tortilla is unable to dive and therefore cannot feed itself. Every day, our caretakers feed it with fishes and squids. Its shell being permanently exposed to the sun, the scales peel off little by little, fortunately without causing any particular difficulties or pain.
Often confused with a rock and causing concerns among visitors, Tortilla will end her days with us under the good care of our teams.
Yesterday, Tortilla was taken out of the water for its annual weighing and measurement. Its small wounds were also treated and its health was assessed. Showing no particular sign of worry, Tortilla quickly returned to the resting lagoon, for its greatest pleasure and for ours!
