On average, sea turtles swim at a speed between 0.9 miles and 5.6 miles per hour. These data were collected thanks to satellite tags recording movements on long distances.
Fortunately, sea turtles are able to swim up to 21.7 miles per hour. This record is held by the Leatherback Turtle, the tallest turtle and also the fastest sea turtle in the water.
These short accelerations allow sea turtles to escape from predators.
On land, better not to be in a hurry! Land turtles move at a speed of 0,15 miles per hour!
