Pereiti arrives at the Sea turtle rehabilitation center
A hawksbill turtle was seen floating on Monday June 3rd, 2024, on the outer slope in Opunohu, Moorea She was no longer able to dive despite her numerous attempts. The CRIOBE staff on site notified us and took care of recovering the turtle so that they could transfer it to the Te mana o te moana Sea turtle rehabilitation center.
After a complete clinical exam, 4 perforations in the neck were identified, probably due to a speargun or a “patia”. On the deepest perforations, sutures were made. Pereiti is therefore in care within the association and antibiotic treatment has started.
Thank you to Clément from CRIOBE for warning us and rescuing the turtle as well as Aremiti for allowing us to the transfer of Pereiti from Moorea to Tahiti.
