The beaches of French Polynesia are exposed to :
- increasing urbanization
- heavy swells
- and ever-greater erosion
resulting in a reduction in nesting areas for sea turtles.
To reduce this phenomenon, Te mana o te moana teams are taking part in the FA’ATURA TE TAHATAI PROJECT which aims to carry out ecological restoration operations to revegetate certain heavily impacted sites.
On Tetiaroa atoll, our teams are beginning to identify areas where native plant species can be harvested, which will then be placed in nurseries to grow before being replanted on the beaches of interest.
A nature-based solution to encourage sea turtle nesting and limit shoreline erosion.
