September 14th was the the first day of the special educational regarding the conservation of the French Polynesian cetaceans. This special day was celebrated into a 10-11 years old Elementary school level at Papetaoi school, Moorea.
Since the beginning of the school year, an educational booklet developped by the foundation and called ” Tohorä, humpback whale, who are you?” is distibuted to schools children aged from 8 to 11 years old. More than 11 000 chidren have received the booklet thanks to the support of Total entity. Added to that, special educational programs are realized into more than 12 schools of Tahiti and Moorea in order to make the children much more awared by the importance of protecting the cetaceans of French Polynesia and moreover the humpack whale which is migrating to our waters every year.
During more than an hour, educators of the foundation provide information about the species of cetaceans, their biology, migration… and the sanctuary held in 2002 explaining by the same time the rules to respect regarding humpback whales in French Polynesia.
