It was with great emotion that we witnessed the release of Kwata, Heimiti, and Melyva’i, three young green turtles treated at our care center, authorized by the Directorate of the Environment of French Polynesia, after being found injured on the atoll of Tetiaroa. These turtles were able to regain their freedom thanks to the commitment of an entire engaged community.
These three young turtles were found trapped in their nest, weakened and injured, during the last nesting season on Tetiaroa. After their transfer to the Te mana o te moana care center, our teams took care of them with patience and expertise.
Arriving in December 2023, she was unusually small in size, had lesions on her neck and fins, and suffered from significant growth problems.
Received in March 2024, she had numerous injuries on her fins, neck, and nostrils, as well as a slightly deformed shell.
Also admitted in March 2024, she was affected on the first vertebral scute, her nostrils, and showed stiffness in the rear fins.
Thanks to the care provided by our veterinary team and volunteers, they have regained their strength and are now ready to face the ocean.

A moment full of emotion and filled with hope for marine biodiversity in French Polynesia.
